THE END OF A FREE REPUBLIC AND THE BEGINNING OF OBAMALAND

The United States Of America as we have known it ceased to exist during an announcement made by the President of The United States. Barack Obama announced that essentially government was taking over two major companies who up until the announcement were publicly owned by stock holders and privately managed by a CEO and Board of Directors.

We have witnessed at the behest of Barack Obama and his elitist advisers the government take over of General Motors and Chrysler, two of the ,"Big 3, " car manufacturers, both publicly held and privately managed but now controlled by the Obama administration.

Many of the liberal Kool Aid drinkers will try and spin this as protecting the American people and the tax money that has been given to the two companies which has not resulted in turning either company around. They will try to spin that Obama is doing nothing more than insuring that good money is not added to bad and that he is saving jobs by moving in on the automakers.

But the truth and the dangerous precedence that has taken place with this take over is the end of United States Capitalism and Free Market business and the beginning of total government control and the ability to seize any business if the President and his advisers decide that a particular business does not meet their standards or qualifications to operate.

The Kool Aid drinkers will further state that Obama did not take over GM and Chrysler because he stated that he was not interested in running either company. But the fact is that a President demanded the resignation of a CEO of a publicly held and privately run company. Demanded that another company would only continue to exist IF they accepted a merger offered by a foreign held company, namely Italian owned Fiat to merge with Chrysler.

Then stating to the American people that they need not worry about service or warranty issues because both were better now because they will be backed by ,"The United States of America." This is not stepping in to help a company or save jobs but a deliberate take over of American business and a complete and total violation of the Constitution as well as the introduction of the nationalizing of business by Obama.

Nowhere in Article II of the Constitution does the President have the authority to fire a CEO of a private business. Nowhere in Article II of the Constitution does the President have the authority to back any of the business practices of private business yet he has backed warranty and service for GM and Chrysler.

Backing the warranties and firing and hiring CEO's is not just assistance by a concerned President. This is a deliberate action to take over both companies. In fact Obama stated that the restructuring plans that the private management presented were not good enough so his advisers would now step in to assist with the restructuring plans. In other words the Obama administration will now dictate to GM and Chrysler how they will operate and the direction for the future of the companies. This is not assisting troubled companies but nationalizing.

In a free market society if a business is experiencing trouble they have options short of closing down to restructure and rebuild. One of those is through bankruptcy reorganization which is what should have happened with GM and Chrysler last year rather than bailout money. Now Obama has moved in and taken over the companies and even if allowed to file for bankruptcy the Obama administration will control the reorganization and the reemergence from bankruptcy.

Additionally not once during the take over announcement did Obama place any of the blame for the demise of GM and Chrysler on the two most guilty culprits. The over regulation imposed by the government and the UAW whose demands have been the driving force behind the failure of the American auto industry. And as the companies have fallen the UAW refused to make concessions to assist the struggling companies.

But with the government under Obama now running GM and Chrysler the UAW need not worry because the American tax payer will now foot the bill for the blood letting that will continue by the labor union.

Now Obama heads to Europe with the destruction of Capitalism coup under his belt to receive the praise of European Socialists who still drool over the American messiah. Through all of this madness the Russians have presented the only ray of sanity as it was announced on the same day as the take over of the automakers, that Russia will propose at the G20 meeting that all world currencies be placed back on the Gold Standard.

Amazing a former Communist Nation is proposing Capitalistic economic solutions while the President of the strongest Capitalist, (until now), Nation is moving to Socialism, the nationalizing of business and spreading the wealth in a manner that Vladimir Lenin would approve. Welcome to Obamaland.

Ken, you may want to switch to decaf. That said, what is your plan for GM?

I have read your complaints and criticism, but what is your preferred alternative?

Without government intervention, neither Chrysler nor GM would exist. Is that your preference? Do you think Rick Wagoner deserved to stay in his job?

Rob, whether Wagoner should have stayed or not is not the point. No President has the right or authority to take over any company.

Now that said, I stated before the first money was given to GM months ago that the company should be allowed to file bankruptcy. A bankruptcy court would allow reorganization and also renegotiation of necessary UAW contracts etc. to give the company breathing room to get back on its feet.

Addittionally if allowed to file bankruptcy private money would step in to prevent such a large and powerful company from closing. Private money has not tried because they know that government is doing it so why bother.

It is not up to the government whether GM, AIG, Bank of America or whichever private or public held company to move in and take over or run the company.

Government can't even run itself without screwing up everything in its path so why should anyone want or expect it to do better with private business.

Obama has NO CONSTITUTIONAL authority to hire or fire a CEO or even a minimul employee of a private or public held business. He has no authority to guarentee any business operation by the government or authority to take over any business. Congress cannot even give him that authority because it is unconstitutional and as such also a violation of his oath to preserve that same Constitution.

He is over stepping Constitutional authority with nearly every move he makes and nationalizing business and banks is not a beleif in Capitalism as he has stated, but a move to end Capitalism and replace it.

As much as you have stated before that you do not like big government I am somewhat surpirsed that you are falling lick stock in with all that Obama is doing and planning on doing.

I have also noticed anoother difference between you and I. When Bush was doing things that I did not like I was among the first who condemned his actions. You on the other hand have defended even the indefensable with Obama.

Though we have many politcal differences you have always been rather sensable in certain things and at times we have even agreed. For instance the Amensty Bill in 2007 and the fact that it had no business passing.

But with Obama, Rob you are constantly defending actions that you have condemned before. He is not the come all and end all that most on the left have come to see him. He is dangerous and a threat to who we are as a country and the very principles that we have followed since our birth.

He has no respect for or real beleif in the Constitution and proves in almost every action that the Constituion is no relevant to his agenda or what he does.

BTW, I am not a coffee drinker. Love the smell and taste but it gives me heartburn!

I'm not sure what actions you are referring to. Wagoner refused to make changes that would have saved GM and he refused to consider bankruptcy. Obama and the new CEO, Fritz Henderson, have not put bankruptcy on the table.

FYI, Wagoner has been CEO since 2000 and he also was given the title of Chairman of the Board in 2003. Under his inept "leadership" in the last four years, GM lost $31B, $39B, $2B, and $20B. The only reason Wagoner was not replaced was his cronies were on the Board.

I believe GM should have gone to bankruptcy, but the federal government still would have had to finance the reorganization. "Private capital" is not going to come in without some federal guarantees. The problems at GM are enormous and Chrysler is currently owned by Cerberus Capital - a private capital firm. If Cerberus couldn't get Chrysler back on track, there isn't going to be any private capital firms who waste their money trying to fix GM - whose troubles are about 15 times worse than Chrysler.

I believe it's all about the unions, Ken. Obama doesn't dare let the auto industry go bankrupt because they're unionized. He sure doesn't want to lose the support of the unions!

Obama has threatened bankruptcy and Fritz Henderson, the new CEO of GM, seems to have embraced it.

This will give GM the leverage it needs to rework union contracts and deal with the $60 billion in bond debt that is crushing the company.

The company is either going to go into pre-packaged bankruptcy proceedings, or address its problems outside of bankruptcy court.

Either way, in the end, the shareholders will get wiped out, the bondholders will get pennies on the dollar, the union contracts will be reworked, and GM will be split up. That should have happened years ago, but because of Wagoner and his cronies on his board it didn't.

Rob, I agree that bankruptcy should have taken place before the loans, but now the Obama administration is in control and even after reamerging from bankruptcy they will not give up that control which makes GM and Chrysler nationalized.

Wake up and realize the power grap and nationalizing of business that is taking place using the economy as the deceptive excuse to force government take over. Take off the blinders my friend and realize that socialism is moving in quickly with Barack Obama at the helm.

The ONLY businesses that have been nationalized are Freddie, Fannie, and AIG. All of these were under the Bush Administration.

There is no reason to believe that Obama wants to build cars. The Obama plan for ridding the banks of toxic assets is a market-driven, private equity solution.

If he wanted to nationalize everything, he would have just nationalized the banks - he could very easily do that, but he didn't.

I think you are over-reaching with your analysis, but I suppose we will see.
