CELEBRATE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REAGAN PRESIDENCY

January 20, 2006 is the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the Presidency of Ronald Wilson Reagan. We at the Liberal Lie, The Conservative Truth along with many other bloggers at the invitation of Mike's America who's author served on Reagan's staff, will be celebrating this date with remembrances of his Presidency and the great accomplishments that were attained during Reagan's eight years in office. Join us with your own celebration of remembrance and inform Mike's America,( http://mikesamerica.blogspot.com ), as he will be publishing excerpts of postings about President Reagan. Be a part of the celebration of a truly great President and the father of the conservative movement!

I am not a gushing Reagan lover, but at least I could respect the man. Celebrate the man for being a true conservative, but a realist. He cut taxes and then signed what was at that time the biggest tax increase in American history to address the significant budget deficits. In addition, he actually cut discretionary government spending by 1.3 percent per year during his 8 years in office.

(I have to get my jab in.) Bush on the other hand has cut taxes and created the largest deficits in history. Unlike Reagan he has been a huge spender. He has increased discretionary government spending by 8.2 percent per year in each of his first 4 years. Note that this spending does not include the war and reconstruction in Iraq. The guy has NEVER vetoed a spending bill or any other bill for that matter. Reagan did it 78 times. Check it out at http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0801767.html
